Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me--to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Cor 12:7-10
He turned the Apostle Paul down, three times.
And Paul, who by the power of God had raised the dead; in communication with Timothy; Did not heal him by this power of God imputed to him. So why then did he tell Timothy, to take something for his stomach, instead of just telling him to have faith and, God would heal him?

Greetings Steve!
Thanks for the response my friend!
If I may speak for you for a moment, you have trouble with the 'contradiction' that a lost person would love the Law of God with his mind, while I have trouble with the contradiction that we are no longer 'slaves to sin' yet the wretched man is described as a 'slave to sin'.
In my opinion, your contradiction is not a direct contradiction. Your understanding of how a lost person is (based upon the Scriptures) contradicts that Rom. 7:14-25 could be describing a lost person.
However, there is no verse which actually says, "A lost person cannot love the Law of God with his mind". :-)
Yet, the contradiction that I am complaining about is a direct 1 to 1 correlation. If the 'wretched man' is a slave to sin (and a Christian), then Rom. 6 is in error.
We may never agree on this issue, but it is a fun study. I have been really digging into the 'sarx' in Paul's writings. There are 5 pages of verses in which Paul uses the word 'sarx'. I am trying to pin down the exact relationship between a believer and the 'sarx'.
I hope to post my study results eventually.
Have a great week my friend!
Your Brother in Christ,

Hi Doc,
It is me again. I do need to say something more. I really do see your point. You make a lot of sense. I agree with everything you said about Zacchaus. I also agree that it was a poor choice on my part. My original point was not to devalue intellect or truth or knowledge or study or the scriptures. There sometimes comes a point where faith in Christ finds its expression in ways that do not need to be over analyzed. I asked Jesus to come into my heart and to change my life. I did this in response to a man that has been involved in leading many people to Christ. The original statements said “that would do about as much good as walking down the aisle”. That it was of no value and that it was like asking Jesus to come into a sewer. When that is exactly what He did. My prayer was not based in a great deal of Knowledge. I did believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God. All I did was offer up an honest prayer. I went on my merry, way I kept on drinking my beer and smoking my drugs. I wasn't even concerned with repentance or eternal life. I wanted to know Jesus. I was told that if I wanted a relationship with someone who would never leave me, someone I could rely on, that He was the only one. A strange thing happened after I prayed that unscriptural prayer. Suddenly their seemed to be a lot of things happening around me that continued to remind me of Jesus. I somehow obtained a book called who is this man Jesus. It is simply a synopsis of the four gospels laid out in chronological order without repetion so as to have complete scriptural record of the life of Christ according to the gospels. This may not be the most correct way to study the scriptures either. Idid not know any other Christians. I did not go to a church. I did not know personally the man that led me to Christ. However my life started to change. I stopped smoking. I stopped doing drugs. I began speaking to Jesus every night as if He were in a chair in the room. ( I was a counsellor alone in a half way house with hardened criminals). I am sure that is not scriptural either. All of these things that are not supposed to work and here I am decades later still walking with Him. In love with Him and His word and sharing that with others and trying to be more than a hearer only. I understand that this forum is about Studying the scriptures and I intend to join the rest of you in this pursuit. A number of you have asked why I didn’t fill in the profile so you could get a chance to know me better. Hopefully this reply will accomplish more than telling you which church I attend.
Thank you, Honestly I mean that. I will now keep my questions and replies to scriptural discussions.

I hear you, and I appreciate what you are saying. Jesus Christ quoted the scriptures to both the disciples and the pharisees. He never quoted chapter and verse. I know I am not Jesus. and I will try to accomodate you with this in the future. I really am receiving a lot.
thank you |

Kcab,
Well, then, thank you kindly. I'm actually glad to be the one who was wrong in this case :-) for it means you were not being deceitful - and that's a very good thing.
It is sometimes difficult to properly weigh what someone means when it's just words that we have to deal with. Being in person in the world to come is going to be so much nicer, isn't it? I'm sure we will all find each other and sit in a big circle as we get to know one another! (About a million years after we get there!!)

Shalom Cheri I have been going back to the posts I have posted in this area finding that I was answering to SJohn when you posted to me. Go to my post to him and see what I was saying to him it is being the same thing I was asking to you. I asked you because I saw you were in the forum at 7:22 so I was thinking you might be still in the forum so instead of wateing for St John I would ask you maby you would be answering right away. My first post to St John was a question on Mark 16:16 because he mentioned it in a post to
Mr. Psalmist if you would read it you will be seeing I made a mention ( OOOPS) about a question I saked on the 5 of Oct. post number 209696 so no I did not try to be trapping you.
Assumptions are a bad thing in some cases they are finding guilt where there is not any crime.
Forgivness is an issue you thought I was being deceiving to you (LYING) you were wrong I forgive you.

Shalom Kcab,
Forgiveness isn't an issue, I just stated a point as it appeared to me.
It seemed to me you already had taken a position on the subject prior to asking the question.
If I was wrong, then YOU forgive ME!! And we'll just start over again. Yes?
Yet, my answer does remain the same, just as stjohn told you in a later post - salvation is free, by the Grace of God, if baptism is part of the equation, then the gift of salvation is no longer a gift, nor is it free, we have worked for and earned it. Baptism is an act of obedience to a command of our King, nothing more, nothing less.
